Empowering Creativity in Rockingham County
Grants & Programs
In 1977, North Carolina took an exemplary step for the arts: they established the Grassroots Arts Program. This initiative was conceived to ensure every North Carolinian had the chance to engage with high-quality arts experiences. Through this program, arts funding reaches all 100 counties in the state, with distributions mainly managed by local arts councils based on a per capita formula.
Overseeing this expansive initiative is the North Carolina Arts Council, which not only manages funds but also offers technical and programmatic assistance to community partners.
The introduction of the Grassroots Arts Program bolstered the presence and role of local arts councils, solidifying North Carolina's reputation as a forefront in community arts development. On a national scale, the state boasts one of the most comprehensive networks of local arts agencies.
Each year, the Grassroots initiative facilitates countless arts activities statewide, a testament to North Carolina's dedication to nurturing the arts.
THE ART OF US
"The Art of Us" is a vibrant celebration of the diverse artistic talent found in Rockingham County, with select contributions from across the Piedmont. Spanning a dynamic three hours, attendees immerse themselves in local artist exhibits, enjoy spontaneous musical performances showcasing unique collaborations among local musicians, savor delectable food, and anticipate art giveaways every 20 minutes.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, for their unwavering support. Our gratitude also extends to RCAC members, the Town of Stoneville, and the unique craftsmanship of Bark: Stuff Made of Wood.
ROCO ARTS STUDIO
FREE to schools and nonprofit
Nestled in the heart of Reidsville at the Reidsville Area Foundation Building is RoCo Arts Studio, a dedicated space for our region's vibrant artistic spirit. This studio gracefully bridges two worlds: music and visual arts. Local musicians, particularly those with a passion for original compositions, find a welcoming stage here. These intimate performances allow audiences to experience the genuine depth and creativity our musicians have to offer.
Adjacent to the performance space, the gallery section offers a thoughtful setting for local artists to display and sell their work. It’s more than just an exhibition space; it's a platform for artists to connect with the community and for visitors to immerse themselves in the local art scene. At RoCo Arts Studio, we celebrate the creative journey, ensuring both artists and aficionados have a place to come together.
Use of the space is offered for free to nonprofits and schools.
